When will my name be included on the GMC General
Practice Register?
Your name will appear on the Specialist or GP register either on
your CCT date or up to seven working days from the date on the
covering letter sent with your certificate, which ever is the later

You can check your status on the Register in MyGMC
or on the online
Register.
It is a legal requirement for your name to be listed in the
General Pracitce Register BEFORE you take up a post and also be
included in your local performers list. Many performers list
administrators request sight of your certificate. Please note
that the legal requirement is General Practice Registration and it
is this the administrator should rely on.

Under the European Directive doctors who are European Economic
Area member state citizens, who have obtained a primary medical
qualification from an EEA member state and who have an acquired
right or a certificate of specific training in general practice
from an EEA member state are exempt from the need to hold a UK

Does the seven-year rule still apply if I am applying
for a
CCT?
No. These were the old JCPTGP rules which required that GP
training had to be completed within a period of seven years in
order for a doctor to be awarded a CCT (previously a certificate of
prescribed experience). Therefore, a trainee who has completed all
their training in an approved programme and/or posts will be
eligible for a CCT even if they take longer than seven years to
complete the programme, providing they demonstrate that they have
met the curriculum requirements through the relevant assessments
for GP training. There is a small number of trainees where
Summative Assessment forms part of their programme. The seven-year
rule still applies for these doctors.
