Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration (CEGPR - formerly Article 11)

A CEGPR (Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration) is awarded to doctors who have not followed the standard CCT route and have not completed a full GMC approved training programme and wish to have their training, qualifications and experience assessed for eligibility for entry to the GP register.

If the training you are putting forward for assessment includes any of the following:

  • Posts undertaken outside the United Kingdom.
  • Posts within the United Kingdom, which were not selected for GP training purposes when they were undertaken.
  • Experience undertaken more than seven years prior to your application for a certificate (if you are completing summative assessment).
  • Or if your deanery  has allowed you to shorten your 3 year CCT training programme with previously completed training posts,

then you will need to apply to the GMC for a Certificate of Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR). Please note that applicants should apply to the GMC six months prior to the completion date of their training programme.

If you joined your training programme above ST1 level you may be eligible to apply for a CEGPR using the Combined Programme route.

The law does not allow the GMC to accept applications from doctors who do not have training or qualifications in general practice.

Further information about the GMC application process, specialty specific guidance (describing the evidence to submit) and the relevant application forms are available on the GMC website.

If you would like to apply for a CEGPR we advise you to read the following before you submit your application:

The application form and further information can be found on the GMC website.

Any existing GP trainees who are completing MRCGP and are applying for a CEGPR need to register with the RCGP as soon as possible in order to obtain access to their ePortfolio.

If you are completing Summative Assessment, you will need to continue to document your training on VTR forms so that you can submit these to the GMC with your application for a CEGPR.
