Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
A CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) certificate is
awarded to doctors who have completed a full PMETB GP approved
training programme and have been assessed under Article 10 of the
General and Specialist Medical Practice (education and
qualifications) order. To determine whether you can apply via this
route please read the Current GP CCT
guidance.
All new GP trainees should register
with the RCGP at the beginning of their training
programme.
In addition to this, any existing GP trainees (e.g those on a
standard programme, or ST2's/ST3's) also need to
register with the RCGP as soon as possible in order to
document posts undertaken after 31st July 2007 on an
ePortfolio.
The exception to this process above will be GP trainees who are
completing Summative Assessment (SA) and who will not be
undertaking Workplace- Based Assessment. These trainees should
register by completing a registration
form and submitting it to the RCGP's Certification Unit
together with a copy of your current annual General Medical Council
registration certificate (GMC) and a fee of £350. The fee
should be paid by a cheque made payable to the Royal College of
General Practitioners. This is a one-off payment which will cover
all submissions to the Certification Unit.
Any trainees that have registered with the RCGP Certification
Unit in the past and are completing nMRCGP will need to
upgrade
their registration online to obtain access to the
ePortfolio.
If you are completing SA or nMRCG, training which begun prior to
August 2007 should be documented on VTR or RITA forms and submitted
to the Certification Unit. Specialty training begun during or after
August 2007 will be documented using the ePortfolio. The only
exception to this will be trainees who are undertaking Summative
Assessment (SA) and who will not have an ePortfolio. These trainees
should continue to use VTR forms and submit them to the
Certification Unit.
All GP trainees who are applying for a CCT will need to apply to
PMETB. The Certification Unit will send you a PMETB GP CCT
application form in your final 6 months of training, which must be
forwarded to PMETB along with the relevant documentation and their
fee.
If you are completing SA, you should submit your final VTR1 form
to the Certification Unit with a copy of your current GMC
registration certificate when you are in the final 6 weeks of your
training programme. The VTR1 form will not be accepted if it has
been signed by your trainer earlier than 6 weeks prior to your
completion date.
If you are completing nMRCGP you will not require a VTR1 form
for your final post, your deanery will complete a final ARCP form
to confirm the satisfactory completion of your training
programme.
When the Certification Unit receives your final VTR or ARCP form
it will check whether your application is complete, whether nMRCGP
or Summative Assessment has been satisfactorily completed and
whether your training complies with Article 10 of the Regulations.
It will then recommend to PMETB whether or not you are eligible for
a CCT. PMETB will marry this recommendation up with your
application to them and, if appropriate, will then issue a
certificate to you. If PMETB decide that you are not eligible for a
certificate they will communicate this to you in writing with
reasons and a recommendation of the further training that you will
need to undertake.
