GP Training Path

In order to practice as a GP within the UK, a doctor must be:

Registered with the General Medical Council and listed on their GP register
Certified by the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board (PMETB).

The CCT, or Certificate of Completion of Training, is the ultimate goal of a GP trainee. This certificate, issued by PMETB is the qualifying ‘piece of paper’ which certifies a GP as fully trained. Once this certificate is issued the PMETB will advise the General Medical Council and the practitioner concerned will be listed on the GP register.
