Life After Training

Congratulations on completing your training and embarking on "possibly the best job in the world". You will see Professor David Haslam's sentiment echoed many times on these pages but we won't apologise for it.

There are many opportunities availble to you as a general practitioner and we bring you an overview of them on the careers pages, kindly prepared by Dr. Muhammed Ali, a portfolio GP and Chair of the RCGP London Faculties GP Training Committee.

Becoming a Member

Once you have completed the (n)MRCGP you will be eligible to become a full Member of the College. As the Membership team receive notification from PMETB that they have released your certificate of completion of training (CCT or CEGPR) they will upgrade you to full Member status. Once this happens you will receive an email and a Welcome Pack.

Providing that the College holds a direct debit mandate on file, you will be upgraded free of charge for the remainder of the subscription year i.e. if you finish in August 2009 you will be upgraded free of charge until 31 March 2010.

New Members are eligible to book a place at a New Members Ceremony and will receive a £100 discount (having completed training as an AiT) on full subscriptions for the first two years post qualifying.

If you have any questions concerning your membership status please email membership@rcgp.org.uk.

Support Post-CCT

The College is investigating a programme of support for newly qualified GPs, with assistance from the AiT Committee and recently qualified Members. Lead by Dr Clare Gerada, Vice Chair of Council, it is hoped that we can launch the initiative in 2010.
