Becoming a Locum GP

As a locum GP working in the Glasgow area, I wanted to write an article to help those of you registrars who will be entering the world of locuming in August. My aim is to give you an idea of how functioning as a locum works and to provide you with some contact details for you to make your arrangements.

Read Craig Masson’s helpful guide.

GP Registrars needed for nMRCGP pilot

Final year VTS registrars are being given the chance to road test the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) element of the nMRCGP before it goes live in October 2007.

Volunteers are needed to take part in pilot sessions to be held on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 August at the new CSA venue in Croydon.

The CSA is designed to test consulting and clinical skills in a surgery setting, and will see candidates rotate around 12 different simulated patient consultations.

Places are limited and applicants will be selected on a first come, first served basis. For more information, or to request an application form, please email nMRCGP administrator Carol Longbottom at CLongbottom@rcgp.org.uk

RCGP Conference – Early Bird Discount

GPs in Training should attend the RCGP Annual Conference to find out more about their College and to network with other GPs. The programme topics are interesting and varied and cater for all manner of special interests and learning needs.

The Education Stream in particular focuses on GP training from foundation years and the nMRCGP assessment, to Continuing Professional Development and issues around re-Certification which will be of interest to all doctors in GP Specialty Training. A GP Registrar Supplement is also being run on the Thursday and Friday of the Conference to specifically focus on issues of relevance to doctors in training. Attendance can be booked, free of charge, as part of the fringe programme.

Doctors in GP Specialty Training can attend the 3-day conference for £195 (£175 for Associates in Training of the College) if booked before 30 June 2007. One day tickets cost £95 (£75), or a Saturday ticket costs £60 (£40).
