Statistics Made Simple

The course is a full day spread over two mornings. Friday 30 September 2016 followed by Friday 7 October 2016. The course format is short lectures to explain the key concepts, followed by active participation using Poll Everywhere live audience participation software.

Topics include

• Basic statistics – mean mode median, normal distribution, skew
• Types of study
• Common statistical tests – what to use when
• What is a P value and what does it mean
• Confidence intervals
• Risk including relative risk reduction, absolute risk, NNT, NNH
• Odds and odds ratios
• Validity (sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, likelihood ratios)
• Topics identified by the delegates at the start of the course
