Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care
This programme has been developed specifically for GPs by GPs based on latest evidence, to provide a consistent clinical approach to a wide range of musculoskeletal (MSK) problems that will be encountered in primary care.
It helps GPs to increase their MSK confidence and competence; learning who to refer, when to investigate and what can be managed effectively in primary care.
The programme includes an elearning module (free to access) and a practical workshop.
Completion of the elearning module and attending the workshop will result in participants being awarded a RCGP Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care Certificate contributing towards their CPD and revalidation.
The target audience is GPs, particularly AiTs and newly qualified GPs as well as other primary care practitioners such as practice nurses and physiotherapists.
Why are we offering this training?
MSK conditions place a large and ever increasing burden on general practice in the UK. They can be difficult to manage. They don’t fit neatly into a model of disease, diagnosis, treatment, cure. GPs often lack formal training in managing these conditions. Patients often feel frustrated that their GP can’t do more to help. MSK condition management can feel overwhelming or like there isn’t much that can be done to help. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Why undertake this training?
- Increase your confidence and competence
- Reduce referrals
- Manage more MSK problems ‘in house’
- Manage your workload
- Increase your job satisfaction
- Include towards your appraisal and revalidation
3 months after completing the elearning and attending workshops, 94% of attendees could give an example of when the workshop had changed their practice.
