Professional Development

Role of the College
Professional Development is a core activity for RCGP Wales. We are committed to providing our members with guidance and support throughout their careers in relation to education and the maintenance of their professional standards and intellectual fulfillment. By working with other organisations we can also influence policy developments within general practice. We can then use this knowledge and understanding to incorporate new challenges into the educational opportunities we provide.

The Future

Education and Training

Since the formation of Welsh Council much hard work has been invested in promoting general practice as a discipline in its own right. Much of this achievement has been due to the establishment of vocational training for general practice and the creation of the membership examination.

The following links will give guidance to those that wish to pursue a career in general practice.

Becoming a GP
Within Wales the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM) provides the opportunity to study medicine. The undergraduate training programmes are based on the recommendations from the General Medical Council.
