 RCGP Wales Strategy

2007-2009

The Charter for the Royal College of General Practitioners states that its objective  “Shall be to encourage foster and maintain the highest possible standards in general medical practice and for that purpose to take or join with others in taking any steps consistent with the charitable nature of that object which may assist towards the same”.

MissionStatement

The primary purpose of the college in Wales is to facilitate the provision of high quality medical care by promoting and supporting general practice and general practitioners.  Although much of this work is the responsibility of the RCGP UK, RCGP Wales will focus on that which is particular to Wales.

Strategic Aim

The RCGP will be the principal reference body for quality and research issues in General Practice in Wales, working with and responding to the Assembly and other professional bodies. It will also play a major role in research and development strategy and planning, education and evaluation of health service activity.  The RCGP in Wales, whilst maintaining and developing policies that are broadly consistent with RCGP UK, will acknowledge and lead on specific issues which have a Welsh dimension.  Working with central college, GMC, UWCM and LHBs, it will be involved in appraisal, revalidation and Clinical Governance, and supporting members through the implementation of the GMS Contract.
