Vision for the Future of Primary Care in Wales

The RCGP and GPC in Wales feel that it is vitally important that Primary Care forms opinion about the proposed changes in health and social provision in Wales, and has a strong voice.  It is for this reason that we are working together to define a vision which can feed into and inform, the policies and current organisational changes of the Welsh Assembly Government.

We aim to give a clear picture of how Primary Care in Wales should look in the  future including structure, manpower, skill mix and the team, training and education, relationships with secondary and social care and the role of patients and their carers.  There is a perceived threat amongst General Practitioners that certain policies may have a detrimental effect on patient care, in particular the general practitioner/patient  relationship.  We have begun this piece of work by identifying and stating the core values of our  profession – and these values will serve to underpin our vision. We aim to produce a document stating our views for the future to present to the Welsh Assembly Government - please don’t miss the opportunity of including yours!
