Requirements & Timescale

There are three phases of revalidation:

  • Phase 1 - Preparation of over five years of evidence which will be discussed at your annual appraisals.
  • Phase 2 - Submission and assessment of that evidence to ensure it meets the standards for revalidation. The RCGP will lead on this second phase but the GMC will approve the standards and quality assure the process.
  • Phase 3 - Reserved for GPs who are not recommended for revalidation through this process, in which case the GMC will assess performance through Fitness to Practise processes before the GP’s licence is put at risk.
