Further Information

What is EPASS?

EPASS awards accreditation to education providers who want to gain recognition for their commitment to quality education.

As demand for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and quality assured training events increases, particularly now with GP appraisal and revalidation, the scheme provides assurance to GPs that activities they undertake or events they attend are relevant to their learning needs.

RCGP Scotland continues to work with NHS Education for Scotland to ensure that GP appraisers are aware of EPASS and the significance of an EPASS accredited event within a Doctor's appraisal folder.

How do I become an EPASS Provider?

An EPASS Provider is a group, company or organisation that provides postgraduate educational events.

In order to gain approval to become an EPASS Provider, you must agree to meet a list of criteria specified in the Licence and Accreditation Agreement.   One of the main qualifying criteria specified in this agreement is that the Provider must nominate an individual who must be:
  • a practicing General Practitioner in Scotland; and
  • actively involved in the organisation and/or presentation of the EPASS events arranged by that Provider
The Licence and Accreditation Agreement has been designed to ensure EPASS Providers provide quality education above all else and with GPs educational needs specifically in mind.  To check that your organisation meets the criteria in this Agreement please click here

If you are interested in applying for EPASS Accreditation, please contact a member of the EPASS Team at epass@rcgp-scotland.org.uk or telephone 0131 260 6800. The application process for EPASS is extremely simple and straightforward. There are three forms which need to be completed and submitted, which can be found in the EPASS Forms section of the webpage.

EPASS Annual Registration Fee:

NHS Organisations (Discounted Rate) £350
Non NHS Organisations (Standard Rate) £1,200

What does EPASS mean for GPs?

EPASS provides assurance to GPs that any EPASS accredited events, courses or conferences they attend, will enhanced their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and learning needs.  Therefore, GPs should look out for the EPASS logo (see logo - top of page) in identifying the events being run by EPASS accredited providers.

How will attendance at EPASS accredited events benefit GPs?

GPs can feel confident that the education they are receiving at an EPASS accredited event is of a high standard.

Following attendance at an EPASS accredited event, each delegate will receive an EPASS Certificate of Attendance.  This certificate can be used to demonstrate a GPs commitment to quality CPD and should be discussed as part of the "review of learning activities" section at the GPs appraisal interview.  Additionally, the Certificate can be used within a GPs Personal Development Plan (PDP) for revalidation purposes.

Hundreds of post-graduate educational events for GPs were EPASS accredited throughout Scotland last year alone.  Details of EPASS courses and events can be found via the RCGP Scotland events diary.

EPASS Events Diary
