in the Management of Drug Misuse in Primary Care Part 2
Course 2010. National Training Day 4th February 2010,

Certificate in Alcohol Screening and Brief Interventions in
Primay Care
RCGP Scotland has been commissioned by NHS Health Scotland to
deliver three one-day training events which are primarily aimed at
GPs. The day will be made up of short presentations and practical
exercises in brief interventions. Our experienced trainers will
provide tailored teaching suitable for enhanced service work on
alcohol and brief interventions, and support delivery of the HEAT
target on alcohol brief interventions.
The course will be delivered in two stages
1. E –
Learning Modulesavailable at http://elearning.healthscotland.com/
– Alcohol Brief Interventions for Practitioners and must
be completed before attending the training day. We recommend the
modules will take approximately 3 - 4 hours to complete and cover
topics such as drinking limits and attitudes to alcohol.

Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse in Primary Care
Part Two Course
National Training Day 4th February 2010, Edinburgh
This course is open to GPs, other doctors,
nurses and pharmacists.
To complete the course candidates must be
currently working with drug misusers. Candidates must have
completed the RCGP Part 1 course or the Lister Institute “Working
with Drug Users” course (first day) prior to the start of Part 2.
We will be running a Part 1 training day in January for those who
need to attend that. Candidates with substantial experience and
evidence of attendance at other training events or conferences may
apply for exemption from this requirement
Course Content:
The Certificate course will significantly
contribute towards your revalidation requirements. The course takes
about eight study days of your time over the year.
There are three formal training days with lectures and group
discussion. The remaining days are for self-directed learning, a
field visit, completion of an audit, a significant event analysis
and a written critical appraisal of a paper. For full

The course is significantly discounted due to
funding from the Scottish Government and will cost £440 which
includes course books, three formal study days and viva with your
tutor (the course costs £1500 in England). A 10% discount
