Overview

The Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse Part 1 is ideal for GPs working at a generalist level, as part of a shared care scheme, especially those intending to provide treatment to drug users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service (L/NES). It is mapped to the Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS) and is endorsed by the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse.

The Part 1 course is now multi-disciplinary, so pharmacists, nurses, drug workers and other healthcare professionals can complete the certificate.

All practitioners wishing to begin the Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse Part 2 need to first complete the Part 1 Certificate, or equivalent.

If any prospective candidates would like other courses to be considered by RCGP Scotland as being equivalent to that of the Part 1 Certificate, please submit details of the course, its learning outcomes and a letter of support from the course organiser with your application for the Part 2 Certificate.
