Part 1 Certificate – General & Expenses

 

Q01. What is Part 1 Certificate?

A01. The Certificate is ideal for GPs working at a generalist level, as part of a shared care scheme, especially those intending to provide treatment to drug users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service (L/NES).

Q02. What does Part 1 Certificate involve?

A02. To complete the course you will have to complete a Substance Misuse E-Learning Modules and the Face to Face Training Day.

Q09. Do I have to enrol for Part 2 Certificate after having completed Part 1?

A09. No, candidates of Part 1 Certificate do not have an obligation to attend Part 2 Certificate

Part 2 Certificate - General

 

Q12. What is Part 2 Certificate?

A12. It is a course that enables practitioners to develop competences at an intermediate or specialized generalist level in drug misuse.

Q13. What does Part 2 course involve?

A13. The Certificate is designed to cover eight full study days (including course and assessment work). There are three formal training days. The remaining five days are self-directed learning, improving skills through the attainment of professional competencies by field visits, completion of course assignments and the development of patient care.

Q14. How long time does the course last for?

A14. Ten months. Usually runs from February to November.

Q16. I did not complete Part 1 Certificate but I think I have relevant experience to apply for Part 2 Certificate. What should I do?

A16. Candidates who can provide evidence of recent attendance at similar training events may be granted exemption from completion to the Part 1 Certificate. Indicate in details your experience in your application form and we will evaluate your circumstances.

Part 2 Certificate - Expenses

 

Q20. How much can I claim for?

A20. Doctors and pharmacists can claim for a maximum of £500.00 and nurses £250.00.

Q21. What can I claim for?

A21. You may claim for travel expenses, locum cover (for independent contractors) and any of the following events: National Training Day, Tutor Led Training Day 1 & 2, Field Visit, Audit, Special Interest Master Class/Conference and Viva.

Q22. What are the Locum rates?

A22. Session payments from April 2007 to March 2008 are as follow:

  • £168.00 per half day (4 hours) not including visits
  •  £357.00 per day (for self employed)

Q23. What happens if my claim exceeds the maximum limit?

A23. As the project is being funded by the Scottish Executive no further expenses can be claimed above the maximum limit allocated.

Q24. What if I need to stay overnight?

A24. No additional funding can be claimed for hotel costs. However, if it is an un-reasonable distance for you to travel on the day and you require an overnight stay, this can be added to your expenses. Contact the Project Administrator for more details.

A25. No.

Q26. What if my employer normally pays my expenses?

A26. If your employer normally pays expenses for you attending events or training, you must claim from them.  Funding for this whole project is limited and is on the understanding that you are not able to claim any of your expenses from other sources.

Q27. What if my employer does not normally pay my expenses?

A27. You will need to have your employer sign a declaration, provided by RCGP Scotland, to confirm this is the case.  We will then be able to process your expenses claim.
