Tip Cards: Improving the way that GP Practices meet the
needs of disabled people
Fair for All –
Disability and RCGP Scotland have been working in partnership
to support GP Practices improve access to disabled people.
Recently, we the have been working together on the
production of “tip cards”, which are a practical and easy-to-use
information resource about how to support people with particular
disabilities in the healthcare setting.
The information in the tip cards has been
adapted from the Fair for All – Disability guidance ‘Achieving
Fair Access’ to assist all staff within NHSScotland improve
access to NHS services for disabled people.
There are seven sections within the tip card
resource, six of which are dedicated to access needs of specific
disabilities and one for local information. Each card
contains some key pointers about communicating with the service
user. The cards are laminated and held together by a ring
holder to allow cards to be flipped over easily and
quickly.
The tip cards are not meant to be a
comprehensive resource on all disabilities but they will help staff
with some quick pointers to meeting the individual needs of people
with specific impairments.
You can access the tip cards here.
