Welcome to the West Scotland Faculty Home Page
Welcome to the West of Scotland Faculty. We are the
largest faculty in Scotland supporting over 1300
members, Fellows and Associates of the College in the Greater
Glasgow & Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire & Arran, Forth
Valley and Dumfries & Galloway Health Board areas.
The faculty has set up a pilot mentoring scheme for GPs in the
Forth Valley Health Board area. The scheme started in April
2007. For further information please see our Initiatives
page.
Faculty members’ interests are represented by an elected
faculty board which meets four times per year and in line with
other faculties in Scotland, matters discussed include
local, Scottish and UK items of business. The board comprises
sixteen elected members and five co-opted members, including the
professors of General Practice and NHS Education for Scotland
together with a GP Registrar representative and two lay
representative. To keep the membership up to date a faculty
newsletter is published quarterly and distributed to every
member.
The annual general meeting of the faculty is held in October
and is linked with the prestigious Fulton Lecture which immediately
follows the AGM. The faculty, jointly with the University of
Glasgow Section of General Practice and the Medico-Chirurgical
Society, host a joint meeting to which all medical students and
faculty members are invited. Additionally, the faculty
organises educational events for members and provides support and
guidance for GPs wishing to become members of the College through
the Interim Membership by Assessment of Performance route
(iMAP).
