Faculties

 

In addition to a substantive central operation in Edinburgh, the College in Scotland also interacts with its members through five local offices, called faculties. Follow the links below for information on the activities of your local faculty.
 
Faculties provide a range of activities and services for members whilst also providing local representation to attend Scottish level meetings. This ensures the College keeps formally in touch with the views and ideas of its members throughout Scotland.

Each faculty provides a core level of service from a base in the main town in their area. In Scotland, members can expect their local faculty to run:
  • Faculty board meetings – to discuss local, national and UK issues in a local context (at least four meetings per annum);
  • A prestigious lecture and/or social event annually - to provide a thought provoking discussion and/or provide the opportunity to meet other members in the area;
  • At least one educational event per annum – a fundamental service to provide members with access to an educational event which is current, specific and meets local needs;
  • Administrative support to officers – the faculty responds to and interacts with members, decision makers and other primary care organisations in an area and at a UK and Scottish level;
  • A regular newsletter (at least two per annum) – to keep members in touch with others in the area and with activity at a local and Scottish level;
  • Groups for quality/clinical initiatives in response to the needs of members in individual areas.

In reality, a local faculty will provide a lot more activity and opportunity for interaction - thereby helping its members keep up to date; able to interact with peers; and be aware of what the College is doing on their behalf.
