In September 2006, RCGP Scotland was
approached by the Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD) and
asked to produce a draft framework for the delivery of health care
in the event of a flu pandemic in Scotland. A project
proposal and costing was then submitted to the SEHD for
consideration.
The project proposal was granted Ministerial
approval on 25 October 2006 and an initial meeting of the Project
Team was held on 27 October 2006 to review the project proposal and
to agree actions and timescales. Following a series of
meetings with key stakeholders, an initial draft was then completed
for consideration by Tom Love (informed by the Advisory Group) in
early December.
In Arpil 2007, this finalised draft
document was circulated for consultation around the NHS Boards, the
medical Royal Colleges and selected professional groups where it
met with approval.
Following the change of Government, we sent a letter to Nicola
Sturgeon (Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health
& Wellbeing) to highlight the work of RCGP Scotland in creating
the Pandemic Flu recommendations. Thus, the final report
entitled
'Pandemic Flu - Provision of healthcare in a community setting’
was submitted to the Scottish Government in August 2007 and
published officially in January 2008.
