The Royal College of General Practitioners is a membership
organisation, which represents over 27,000 members (3,250 of whom
are based in Scotland). The College assists its members by helping
them deliver on their commitment to improving patient care, develop
their own skills as General Practitioners as well as developing
General Practice as a specialty.
In Scotland (as elsewhere in the UK) the College has a
regional network of offices (known as faculties) which provide
local support to members. There are five faculties in
Scotland.
The College is governed by a UK Council of Trustees on behalf
of its members. The College in Scotland is led by Scottish Council
comprising twenty five members (including faculty representatives
and elected officers) to develop ideas and initiatives in relation
to general practice and primary care in Scotland.
Work in Scotland is organised into four organisational teams.
These include Executive & PR (Policy and external liaison),
Projects & Initiatives including Education section (lifelong
learning) and Quality section (improving quality of patient
care), Services to Members and Business Services.
