The College in Scotland seeks to promote the College’s
objectives in Scotland, which are to:
Promote the profession by encouraging persons of ability to
enter the medical profession and become general
practitioners.
Enhance medical knowledge and the skills of general
practitioners by undertaking or assisting others in undertaking
training courses or other educational activities.
Raise the quality of patient care through a wide range of
quality initiatives and awards, setting standards and clinical
guidelines for clinical care.
Encourage research in general practice to improve the
evidence-base for best practice on which standards and guidelines
may be based.
Support its members by providing opportunities for doctors to
network and share ideas with others, mainly through its faculties
and e-mail lists.
Represent the views of GPs, and in particular our members,
through comment and representation.
