Scottish Council
Scottish Council meets four times a year
(November, March, June and September) in Edinburgh to debate and
develop ideas and initiatives in relation to general practice and
primary care in Scotland.
There are twenty-five members of the Council
and five observers who:
- Discuss and respond to developments impinging on general
practice in Scotland (through parliament, executive or from other
external sources)
- Comment on UK initiatives and developments in relation to
Scottish general practice (either individually or as a
Council)
- Develop initiatives and actions on behalf of the College in
Scotland
- Provide guidance and direction on College projects, initiatives
and activities
- Ensure that the College is as representative as possible of
member opinion across Scotland
- Further developments in relation to the quality of patient care
and the professional development of individual members
- Ensure continued recognition of the College in Scotland as a
lead player in primary care development in Scotland through the
quality of the output across the College to external bodies and to
members.
- Take account of the views of patients, external agencies and
members in relation to the College generally and individual
activities where appropriate.
A number of agenda items discussed at Scottish
Council will originate from developments at UK level, and vice
versa.
