Scottish Council

Scottish Council meets four times a year (November, March, June and September) in Edinburgh to debate and develop ideas and initiatives in relation to general practice and primary care in Scotland.

There are twenty-five members of the Council and five observers who:

  • Discuss and respond to developments impinging on general practice in Scotland (through parliament, executive or from other external sources)
  • Comment on UK initiatives and developments in relation to Scottish general practice (either individually or as a Council)
  • Develop initiatives and actions on behalf of the College in Scotland
  • Provide guidance and direction on College projects, initiatives and activities
  • Ensure that the College is as representative as possible of member opinion across Scotland
  • Further developments in relation to the quality of patient care and the professional development of individual members
  • Ensure continued recognition of the College in Scotland as a lead player in primary care development in Scotland through the quality of the output across the College to external bodies and to members.
  • Take account of the views of patients, external agencies and members in relation to the College generally and individual activities where appropriate.

A number of agenda items discussed at Scottish Council will originate from developments at UK level, and vice versa.

The work of Scottish Council is supported by an Executive Board and Membership Liaison Group.
