College Tartan and Gifts

College Tartan

The RCGP Scotland Tartan was commissioned and donated to the college by Dr Bill Reith FRCGP in November 2002 to mark his period as Chairman of Scottish Council from 2000-2003. The tartan was commissioned especially for RCGP Scotland based on the sett of the Clan Scott tartan and was designed using the colours that make up the college's coat of arms. Richard Scott was the Scottish Memeber of the steering group of the college and was a key figure in the formation of Scottish Council, of which he was Honorary Secretary from 1953-1969. He was appointed Professor of General Practice at the University of Edinburgh, the first Chair of General Practice in the world, in 1963.

The tartan was designed by Kinloch Anderson, a family based firm in Edinburgh who are one of the world's leading specialistsin tartan.

The RCGP Scotland Tartan is unique and has been recorded in the Scottish Tartans World Register.

Using the tartan donated by Dr Bill Reith FRCGP, RCGP Scotland have produced Tartan Ties and Silk backed Tartan Scarves, which are now available for purchase. The cost of the Tartan Tie is £18.50 and the Tartan Scarf is priced at £10. We have a limited number of these items available, so if you are interested, please order them quickly.
