COMPETITION OPPORTUNITY FOR FUNDING TOWARDS ATTENDANCE AT
THE VASCO DA GAMA/16th WONCA EUROPE CONFERENCE
The Vasco da Gama Movement (VdGM) forms part of the WONCA
organisation and is the European International Committee for GP
trainees and GPs within 5 years of completing training. The
WONCA Europe Conference this year is to be held in
Malaga, Spain in October 2010. The conference is for young
doctors to share experiences and forge links across Europe.
There are 5 General Practice based Theme Groups for discussion and
debate; Working on Research, Education and Training, Recruitment,
Exchange, Organisational Structure and Image.
The Severn Faculty plans to sponsor trainee ST2, ST3 and/or
newly qualified GPs (first 5 years) to attend the conference in
2010, as it has in previous years, along with possible funding from
local PCTs. This competition is open to trainees working
within the Severn Faculty catchment area. The faculty has
£1500 to pay towards the successful applicant/applicants attendance
which should help towards the costs of flights and accommodation
(amount awarded is dependent on number of applicants).

HIPPOKRATES EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
Is your GP practice ready to broaden its horizon and take on
new challenges in 2010?
Why not get involved in International Primary Care - A unique
opportunity has been created by the RCGP Junior International
Committee (JIC) for GP practices and trainees to gain valuable
experience in international general practice by participating in
the European 'Hippokrates ' Exchange programme. Read on to
find out how your practice can get involved.
1. Register with the JIC Exchange Committee as a host
practice.
2. Your practice will receive a 'hosting pack', which
contains all the information you need, including
evaluation forms, code of
conduct, outline of placements etc
3. Your practice will also be put in touch with your local
exchange committee contact, who will help to
facilitate the placements.
4. The observational placement itself will be 2 weeks, and
a suggested programme will be provided.
5. Finally, the JIC will ask you to complete an evaluation
form and keep you updated about future visitiing
trainees.
