Midland Faculty

Programme Overview:

What is the Aim of the Programme?

This is a practical course:

We want to introduce participants to key Management and Leadership theory.  Our emphasis however is on exploring the real-life relevance of these to improving service quality.

At each coaching session, participants are tasked with trying out various new ideas or behaviours.  They are asked to feed back their experiences at subsequent sessions.

The culture of our Programme is designed to be highly challenging yet supportive. Thought provoking yet good fun!

On this Programme, you will be an active participant – not a passive recipient of knowledge!

Think of it as ‘climbing a flight of stairs’ … we’ll provide the steps… you need to do the climbing!

For those expecting a smooth passive ‘escalator ride’ .. this is not the programme for you!

Our key guiding philosophy is built around the themes of Openness and Effectiveness.

Openness

To new ideas

To ‘having a go’ at trying out new skills

Through giving totally honest feedback to one another via ‘courageous conversations’

Effectiveness:

Learning how to develop a repertoire of different leadership styles

By increasing your emotional intelligence

By learning how to analyse the socio-political context of a situation and generating best-fit action plans.

By encountering some fundamental ideas around Service Improvement and Lean

Who is the Programme For?

We are delighted to have recruited a truly multidisciplinary group of 60 primary health care and social work professionals in 2008.    The following link provides a breakdown by professional group. (Excel document)

Programme Structure

Participants are grouped into coaching groups, consisting of one Champion and five Associates.

These coaching groups discuss individual projects and the leadership knowledge and skills required to achieve the project goals.

Additionally, a series of Master Classes is being held centrally in the West Midlands region.

Topics for these master classes are drawn from the learning needs of individual participants.

Programme Outcomes:

The goal of the Programme is enhanced patient care through service improvement.

All Associates are working on specific projects.  We are actively facilitating whole-group networking, with the goal of stimulating the design of larger, pan-regional projects.

Our 2008 participants report a boost to their self confidence and comments from their work colleagues that demonstrate enhanced personal effectiveness and resilience.
