Recertification

RCGP sets out the principles, purpose and framework for recertification for general practitioners

The RCGP has announced a set of principles that will underpin its proposed system of recertification. The principles and purpose have been approved by Council on the recommendation of the Revalidation Stakeholder Group (RSG) which is a large inclusive group of stakeholders.

The framework is based around Essential General Practice; Managed CPD (reflection and learning) and Modern professional practice in the specialism (performance) - with good appraisal binding them together.

Together, they provide a high level framework of reference for the College’s Revalidation Stakeholder Group and its Recertification Technical Group (RTG).

The RCGP has also confirmed that there will be a national consultation on the detailed model of recertification to ensure that there is ample opportunity for the profession to be involved in shaping the scheme.

The College’s RSG and the RTG will undertake the work required to convert this framework into a detailed methodology for recertification. This work is currently at an early stage, but will be supported by the new GP curriculum.

Regular updates on the progress of recertification will be provided via this site.
