About us
We promote the profession by
encouraging people to enter the medical profession and become
general practitioners in Wales.
We value the opportunity of working with other
primary care organisations to develop the primary care agenda in
Wales.
We work in partnership with a wide range of
organisations in order to progress ideas and initiatives and
develop robust health initiatives across the country.
We work actively with Assembly
Members, Local Health Boards, the Welsh Government and the area of
Health and Social
Care in relation to the quality of general practice as well as
providing support and advice on education and standards.
We also have close working relationships with
Cardiff University's School
of Postgraduate Medical & Dental Education and School of Medicine as well as
working alongside Swansea University's School of Medicine.
We are constantly working towards several
objectives which we promote across Wales including:
- Encouraging research in general practice to improve the
evidence-base for best practice on which standards and guidelines
may be based
- Enhancing medical knowledge and the skills of GPs by
undertaking or assisting others in the delivery of training
courses or other educational activities
- Raising the quality of patient care through a wide range of
quality initiatives and awards
- Representing the views of GPs, and in particular our members,
through comment and representation
- Setting standards and clinical guidelines for clinical
care
- Supporting our members by providing opportunities for doctors
to network and share ideas with others, mainly through our
faculties
