Modular Quality Practice Award

In response to a large number of requests from practices who want to take part in QPA using a more flexible timescale, RCGP Scotland has developed a pilot 'Modular Quality Practice Award'.  This aims to encourage interested GP practices to undertake a more manageable route to the award.

Instead of having 18 months to complete QPA, practices will have 3 years to complete six modules, covering organisational and clinical areas, involving the whole team.

The Essential Criteria module of QPA has been specifically designed to support practices with CQC registration.  Those practices that have completed QPA will be assured that they are very well prepared for CQC registration though completion does not in itself guarantee registration.

To assist  the practice in achieving the modules they will have access to an mQPA advisor/assessor, who will be available to answer questions and check sections of criteria as they are completed.  Upon completion of each module a certificate of achievement is issued and if all six modules are completed within the 3 year timescale the practice will then have the opportunity to undertake the full mQPA visit.

Modules

mQPA consists of six modules, which can be taken in any order or as a stand alone module. The table below describes the elements covered by each module. Please click each link to download the relevant document.

Further Evidence

When a module is passed, it is passed online by a single assessor.  When the six modules have been completed and a practice arranges a visit the evidence contained in the modules will be assessed by a multidisciplinary team of four assessors.  They will have a broader range of experiences and may well ask for some extra evidence to be produced prior to the visit taking place.  This reflects the position that QPA holds as an award of excellence.

Essential Criteria Not Assessed

QPA consists of six modules but only five of these are available as stand-alone modules. The Essential Criteria module is not available as a stand-alone one.  A practice will still receive advice from the advisory team on this module and evidence for it must be presented when a practice wishes to complete the journey with a QPA visit.

The cost of each module is £250 payable at the start of each. The cost of the full mQPA visit is based on the current charge for QPA, less the monies already paid for the 6 modules. Following a successful visit the practice achieves mQPA which is then valid for 5 years.
