GP Learning
Tools 
The Royal College of General
Practitioners (Scotland) initiative, Essence of General Practice,
launched a set of GP Learning Tools in February 2008. The Learning
Tools aim to encourage General Practitioners (GPs), at any stage in
their career, to consider the future of General Practice through
original thought and discussion. The GP Learning Tools
comprise an explanatory booklet and a box of 52 prompt cards.
The Prompt Cards are
compiled from the views of established GPs as well
as valuable contributions from patients on General
Practice. The concept of the learning tools came about following a
meeting where we asked a number of respected GPs to submit their
thoughts on “What is the future of General Practice?”. We then
asked a number of patients to answer these two questions: “What do
you value from your GP?” and “What do you see as the unique role of
your GP?”. The illustrations on the reverse of the cards reflect
the meaning of the highlighted text from the extract.
