RCGP Northern Ireland Council
Welcome to the Northern Ireland Council of the Royal College of
General Practitioners’ website.
We aim to represent our members working in
Northern Ireland and to address local issues and aspirations. We
also aim to influence the work of the Royal College and
governmental policy, where appropriate, in order to try to ensure
that Northern Ireland members views are represented.
We
are always very pleased to welcome any members who would like to
contribute to the work of the College in Northern Ireland. Please

History
The Royal College of General Practitioners
Northern Ireland was established in 1953, one year after the
College in the UK. A Northern Ireland Faculty was created to take
forward RCGP interests in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland
Faculty was so successful that on 1st April 2003 it
progressed to become a Council. This has has been particularly
beneficial since the establishment of a devolved government in
Northern Ireland.
Northern
Ireland Council have a chain of office
which reflects the history of the College in Northern Ireland.
Structure
The Royal College of General Practitioners
Northern Ireland aims to bring a local flavour to the work of the
RCGP. The RCGP Northern Ireland Council
is made up of member GPs who give voluntarily of their
time to further the objectives of the College in Northern
Ireland.
RCGP Northern Ireland Council meetings take please
on a quarterly basis. All members are entitled to attend the
Council meetings as observers and should declare their intention to
attend at least one week in advance of the meeting. Any motions or
comments from members to be raised at the Northern Ireland Council
meeting should be forwarded in writing to the Council Chairman,
Professor Scott Brown, 10 working days in advance of the
meeting.
