The English Faculties provide a
local interface with Fellows, Members and Associates of the
College. Many provide exciting and relevant educational
events, ranging from personal development issues such as
appraisals, to clinical areas such as palliative care, minor
surgery, ophthalmology and diabetes. In addition, Faculties
provide specific training for Registrars wishing to sit the MRCGP
examination.
Faculties also provide opportunities
for colleagues to meet socially. Many Faculties hold eponymous
annual lectures, with interesting speakers and good food!
Awards evenings, designed to recognise the contribution of GPs and
other members of the Primary Health Care Team are now becoming
widespread. Retired Doctors are also able to keep in touch
with their colleagues through specific groups set up for this
purpose, and through the annual general meeting.
Main areas of activity:
Quality
The quality of care offered to patients by general
practitioners is at the heart of the College’s activities.
Education/CPD
Professional Development is key to activities for the College
as a whole. We are committed to providing our members with
guidance and support throughout their careers in relation to
education and maintaining professional standards.
Influencing Policy
By working with other organisations we keep up to date with
and are able to influence policy developments that impact on
general practice.
Membership Services
The College actively looks for ways of interacting with
members. At a local level, there are 22 English Faculty
Offices.
