What's New?

Latest news from the RCGP Research & Surveillance Centre:

  • As from 1st April 2009, the Birmingham Research Unit will be known as the RCGP Research & Surveillance Centre (RCGP RSC). We hope that our new title will better reflect the work that we do and the fact that we are national not regional research and surveillance centre.

  • The Electronic Health Indicator Data (eHID) project is an EU funded project concerned with recording in-patient electronic medial records in a way that optimises the use of the records for epidemiology.  The project involved several networks throughout Europe and data from the Weekly Returns Service was compared with those in other networks.  More particularly however, we were concerned with the recording disciplines in the network. One of our conclusions was that all diseases or problems encountered at each consultation must be clearly identified in coded form. The project also emphasised the desirability of episode typing at the point of consultation. The full report is now available on our research papers page or on disc or paper copy on request to the Centre.
