The winners of the 1999 Award were Dr Pat Hoddinott and Professor Roisin Pill for their paper:
 
Qualitative study of decisions about infant feeding among women in the east end of London

1999 Highly Commended Paper
The judges for the 1999 Paper of Year wished to give a special commendation to another of the entries. This was Dr Fiona Bradley, Dr Rose Wiles, Professor Ann Louise Kinmonth, Professor David Mant and Dr Madeleine Gantley for the SHIP Collaborative Group for their paper:
