The RCGP Adolescent Health Group was originally
established in 1993 (as the ‘RCGP Adolescent Working Party’) to
promote improved standards of care for young people in primary
care.
Over the years the group has
worked with government departments and other Colleges and
organisations to raise the profile of adolescent health and to run
courses and conferences, produce resources and provide support to
general practices.
Some key activities/resources
have included:
- The ‘Getting it Right’ for young people awareness
campaign
- Establishing the Adolescent
Health Care Award 2011
- Publishing the Confidentiality Toolkit for general
practice team training
- Producing training videos and DVDs: ‘Trust’ and
‘HEAR’
- Setting up the Association for Young People’s Health with
representatives of other organisations
- Launching the GPs4YP special interest web
pages
- Running national conferences on research in adolescent
health
The group consists of 12-16 GPs
and other invited members. Membership is open to any GP who is
enthusiastic about young people’s health and willing to contribute
to activities and developments.
A toolkit to help GP practices
improve young people's uptake of sexual health and other
services
The RCGP Adolescent Health Group has
relaunched the popular Confidentiality and Young People Toolkit.
This valuable resource for GP practices contains information on
young people's concerns about confidentiality, practical tips,
legal guidelines and training materials.
It also includes case studies and
responses from the expert members of the Adolescent Health Group
and is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation which can be used
for training.
