Expert Resource
“It is more important than ever that GPs are actively involved
with the work of the College, and the Expert Resource is one of the
ways in which the members can use the College to make a
difference.”
Professor Steve Field, RCGP
Chairman
Introduction
The Expert Resource initiative enables GPs to inform the College
of their individual area of expertise and work with the College on
relevant projects.
The Expert Resource has been used to date in a wide variety of
areas, such as contributing to the National Institute for Health
and Clinical Effectiveness (NICE) guidelines process, supporting
the RCGP Clinical
Champions, and working with the Honorary Secretary's Office on
responses to consultations.
Registration Process
"I would recommend it to anyone with a particular area of
expertise coupled with a vision and a passion to improve services
to patients"
Dr Joss Bray, Northumberland
Registration carries no set obligation to the expert, as each GP
is contacted on a project by project basis as appropriate and
are free to accept any projects of interest if they have
capacity. The Expert Resource is an unpaid role with the
RCGP, although specific projects may offer expenses or recompense
for involvement.
Registration is free, online, and secure through the
RCGP website. To register for the Expert Resource you
will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire on your
professional expertise and interests, and attach a current
CV. Your details will then be automatically recorded in the
RCGP database, and the CIRC team will forward any relevant
oppertunities to you as they arise.

as an Expert Resource.
Benefits of Registration
Involvement with NICE
"Expert Resource gives me ample oppertunity to get myself
involved with the formulation and implementation of various stages
in NICE guidelines groups, peer review and validate other clinical
outputs essential for general practice."
Dr Sanjeev Maskara, Aberdeen
The RCGP works closely with NICE to ensure that there is
appropriate primary care representation in the production of NICE
guidelines and implementation planning. A key feature of
the Expert Resource is that it allows the RCGP to use the
information given by members to recommend the most appropriate
GPs to NICE to contribute to each relevant pathway.
If you are interested in working with the RCGP to provide
primary care input into NICE, please register
as an Expert Resource.
Current Guidance and Consultations
Registration will allow the RCGP to send you targeted
