Innovators Mentorship Programme and Bright Ideas

Applications now open for new innovation programmes to support entrepreneurial GPs and Bright Ideas

Professor Martin Marshall, Vice Chair of the Royal College of GPs

At the RCGP we aim to support fresh approaches to support GPs and the wider healthcare team with solutions that improve patient care and support general practice and the NHS. This support has included creating new models of care, offering digital tools and developing resources to aid self-care. Now we want to build on this important work with our two new programmes created to support forward thinking GPs.

The Innovators Mentorship Programme (IMP) provides support to GPs with an innovative product or service that addresses an unmet need in general practice. IMP gives support through mentoring and includes training in the non-clinical skills GPs may not have had access to. IMP has been developed to help GPs to overcome the challenges entrepreneurs face and accelerate the development of innovations needed in general practice.

We are looking for driven, ambitious and enthusiastic GPs with a passion to solve problems to join the programme. We will provide support to GPs to develop commercial innovations to support the NHS and primary care. GPs who believe in proactively developing solutions to address unmet needs in primary care for the ultimate betterment of patients. These innovations do not need to be novel, however the they should be a superior solution to existing approaches or offerings.

We are also launching a new call for Bright Ideas Awards – fresh approaches that have been tried and tested on the frontline. This year we will be presenting awards to Bright Ideas that are either pioneering by pushing the boundaries of traditional approaches or ideas that demonstrate high impact to alleviate the pressures facing primary care. The Bright Ideas Programme aims to take new approaches developed by frontline health care professionals and spread these to support practices and improve patient care.

Through Bright Ideas workshops we will work with successful applicants to spread the ideas to support general practice in continuing to deliver great care.
