Substance misuse resources
GPs have many different roles and responsibilities in caring for drug users. Our toolkit and guidance documents are aimed at helping primary care practitioners provide effective treatment.
Substance misuse toolkit for GPs and primary care organisations
This toolkit is based on evidence of best practice in continuing professional development, training and supervision in the addiction field and is supported by the consensus opinion of the RCGP National Expert Advisory Group.
It describes the criteria, standards and evidence required at each level of practice:
- the harm reduction, public health interventions and signposting expected of a competent generalist
- the competencies of a shared care GP
- the skills expected of a GP with a Special Interest in substance misuse (GPwSI)
