The campaign in Wales is calling for 400 more GPs by 2020 to halt the gathering workforce crisis in general practice. In July 2015 we launched our action plan Strengthening General Practice which led to positive measures in the government’s own primary care workforce plan.

Promises include a national GP recruitment campaign, reimbursing medical school fees for newly qualified GPs and expanding the GP retainer scheme to offer flexible working for potential retirees.

For the Welsh Assembly elections, we launched a manifesto, campaign video and carried out research to keep up the pressure, and we are now working with newly-elected Assembly members to make all parties aware of the urgency surrounding the future of general practice.
