Update in Neurology is a flexible, evidence-based short course for GPs. The course combines interactive CD-ROMs with a study booklet, and clinical meetings highlighting common and 'red flag' neurological conditions together with expert tutor support. This innovatibe package, commissioned by the British Brain and Spine Foundation in collaboration with the Royal College of General Practitioners, is the result of in dept research with GPs, establishing their needs in the diagnosis and assessment of neurological conditions and making appropriate refferals to secondary care.
Neurology is often perceived by GPs as a difficult and ambigious area. This interactive, participative course is shaped by GPs and focuses on real GP needs. Through audit-directed education, it will help you gain an understanding of common problems structured around six main areas.
* Headaches
* Tingling and numbness
* Strokes & Transient Ischaemic Attacks (TIA)
* Dementia, confusion & movement disorders
* Fits and faints
* Sciatica and brachialgia
*** The collaborative venture between the RCGP and the University of Bath producing distant learning packages for GPs ended on 31 March 2007. By mutual agreement the Bath Learning Unit has been closed and the Learning Unit materials have been transferred to the RCGP in London where they will be stocked and promoted. The RCGP is looking at new ways of taking forward this work for the future in the context of developments in Continuing Professional Development and recertification. This is likely to be a web based provision of smaller specific modules (clinical topics) for e-learning. In the interim, the RCGP is continuing to administer the education learning materials but the assignment marking and the tutor support for assignments within the modules is no longer available. In recognition of this, the learning packages are offered at a reduced price, as detailed in this product description. In addition, RCGP members receive a further 10% discount.
