Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders in Primary Care

This book contains practical information for GPs on both common and rare metabolic problems, with an emphasis on diabetes. Written as part of the RCGP Curriculum for General Practice Series, Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders in Primary Care provides invaluable information for those taking the nMRCGP assessment. Learning is reinforced through case scenarios and each chapter summary relates the contents to the domains of core competences of being a GP.

It is also a general source of up-to-date information on diabetes and endocrine disorders for primary care professionals. Written by an expert in the field, the writing is underpinned by both clinical experience and academic thoroughness.

The book covers the following diabetes-related topics:
" definitions and diagnosis
" management of acute problems
" glycaemia in diabetes
" macrovascular and microvascular complications
" ethnic, cultural and psycho-social aspects
" structures of care.

There are also chapters on obesity, diabetes and pregnancy, thyroid disorders and rare endocrine problems (such as Addison's and Cushing's disease).

Roger Gadsby MBE has been writing and speaking about diabetes since becoming a GP in 1979. For the past 17 years he has been an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Warwick where he has developed training programmes in diabetes aimed at GPs and practice nurses.
