RCGP Prizes and Awards
The College has an extensive
range of awards, including in its faculties and devolved
Councils.
Awards are by application
and by nomination and administered by the Awards Committee, chaired
by the President. All are intended to give recognition,
encouragement and to empower people in the different ways they
work.
The information given on the applications will be used solely
for the purpose of supporting the objectives of the RCGP in the
administration of its awards. All data will be processed in
accordance with the Data Protection
Act 1998.

Current Awards
Deadline 31 May 2012
Award of £2,500 and a commemorative plaque for an individual GP
or practice which has demonstrated a significant innovation or
improvement in the standard of care provided for young people in
the previous two years. The winner is presented with a cheque
at the RCGP Annual General Meeting.

Department of General Practice
Annual elective prize of £500 towards an elective in general
practice. Open to all undergraduate medical students in the UK.
Each Department of General Practice or Primary Care may submit the
name of one student for consideration. Deadline: 31 March
2013
Previous winner
2011 
To enable GPs from the UK to undertake international study of an
aspect of primary healthcare that is relevant to their country's
needs. They also assist overseas family doctors to visit the UK and
study an aspect of primary healthcare relevant to their own
country’s needs, or to help develop their own systems of primary
care. The value of each scholarship award normally ranges from £200
to £1,000.

Scientific
Foundation Board Grants
The Board’s objective is to support high quality primary care
research studies, particularly where they also increase research
skills in general practice. This substantial increase in the
maximum award recognises the increased costs of undertaking
research to a high standard.

Society for Academic Primary Care and the Royal College

This annual award of £1,000 is
intended support the international development of promising
researchers in primary care. It is intended to enable opportunities
to meet and collaborate with researchers in other countries and, to
attend and present work at an international research meeting.

The GP Enterprise Awards are organised by the RCGP and GP
Newspaper. They aim to publicise ideas from general practice that
can be easily replicated around the UK. The College is grateful to
GP Newspaper and the Medical Defence Union for sponsoring and
supporting the awards.
Disability Care
Award

Nomination 
Award to encourage excellence of care to disabled people in
general practice. Awarded to a practice or GP in recognition of
innovative or significant developments in the organisation,
accessibility or delivery of care to disabled people. The College
is grateful to Leonard Cheshire Disability for their support of the
award. The winner is presented with a commemorative
certificate at the RCGP Spring General Meeting.

The Caring About Carers Award
The Caring About Carers Award recognises the excellent work of
GP practices in identifying and supporting carers. The RCGP in
partnership with the Princess Royal Trust for Carers is running the
awards again this year and patient/carers nominations are now being
sought.
