Guidance on Making Nominations
The College is a registered
charity. It is particularly concerned to ensure that its awards are
made to the most appropriate people and that its procedures are
open and transparent.
College Awards are administered
by the Awards Committee, which is a Committee of Council.
This guidance has been written to assist those applying for or
nominating others for awards of the RCGP and should be adhered to
whenever possible. Candidates and nominators should be aware
that the College receives a high number of nominations and these
are not always successful.
Accuracy
It is the responsibility of
those applying and for those nominating others for awards to take
particular care to ensure the accuracy of all information enclosed
on forms.
Full Details
Full and comprehensive details
are required on all awards forms. Incomplete forms may delay
the application being considered.
Special
Relationships
It is not appropriate for
members of the College to nominate spouses or other close personal
relationships, or those with whom they are in partnership.
For those working together in Institutions such as Universities,
full details should be set out on the application form explaining
exactly what is the nature of the working relationship.
General
Guidance
The intention of College awards is to
recognise publicly voluntary work for the College and the
development of general practice which is particularly meritorious.
Paid work for the College, whether through a contract of employment
or some form of consultancy contract, will not in itself be taken
into account in assessing whether a candidate has done enough to
justify an award, although such candidates are not disqualified
from consideration for an award in respect of voluntary work they
have undertaken which would otherwise merit an award.
- Nominations for College awards
should wherever possible, be without the knowledge of the
candidate.
- It is not appropriate to self-nominate for an
award other than a competition award and self-canvassing is
discouraged.
- The Awards Committee reserves the right to
recommend a different award nomination if this would be more
applicable. The nominator would be contacted in this
instance.
- The same piece of work can only be used to
apply for one College award within a three year
period.
- The information given on applications will be
used solely for the purpose of supporting the objectives of the
RCGP in the administration of its awards. All data will be
processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
