Why I Applied
"I give several reasons for doing it:
- because I thought I was good enough!
- because it sets one above all new GP's with membership and
reflects my experience;
- because it was there - and I like a challenge."
"One of the reasons for undertaking the new unified route is
that I feel the process is based on achievements and validated by
ones peers which gives it more credibility. With all GP registrars
now taking the nMRCGP, I feel it helpful to have additional
achievements recognized as to a certain extent."
"I suppose I applied because I would like to
be told that I am a good grass routes general practitioner, by
someone that counts to me. I found reading what my referees wrote
particular moving."
"I have always wanted to do more in General Practice than the
basic service to patients and it is very rewarding to have that
extra work acknowledged by being elected to fellowship. The
recognition and encouragement was one of the main reasons for
applying.I also felt that I needed an extra challenge to see me
through the last 10 years in practice and I now feel stimulated to
carry on with the extra projects I am involved with."
"Two of my partners are fellows of the Royal College, having
been nominated by their peers for their academic activities.
My motivation for applying for fellowship was my feeling
that other contributions to the profession have
been under-recognised historically and were perhaps equally
valid. I was pleased to learn that the RCGP is now looking to
open up fellowship to grass roots vocational GPs, so I thought I'd
have a go!"
