Influencing

The decisions that are made by politicians, planners and civil servants impact us all in our daily lives. The College works hard to be in the position of being the most informed voice of general practice on all issues related to professional standards, education and development, and is regarded ever more highly by official bodies, government departments and parliaments across the UK.

Devolution has added significantly to the influence of the College across the UK and our ability to represent general practice in all four countries through the College’s devolved councils has been one of the greatest successes in recent years.

In addition, through our faculties we continue to have a very active local presence across the UK. This enables us to understand and respond better to the needs of our members, regardless of where they work.

GPs are able to influence decision making via:

• Influencing national healthcare policy in the four countries
• Shaping College policy
• Contributing to College responses
