As a trainee GP we're here to support you as you start your journey into general practice. We run the MRCGP, which is the assessment required to become a GP in the UK. We've got a tailored membership offering for trainee GPs - Associates in Training (AiTs).

We're here to support your learning as you start your career in general practice. As a member we'll supply you with free publications, courses and events, an extensive medical library as well as a variety of online learning modules.


When you join the RCGP, you become part of our 50,000 strong network of GPs and trainees throughout the UK. We provide peer-to-peer opportunities for support, advice and mentoring including free events specifically for trainee GPs.

Shape the future of general practice

Our Clinical Innovation and Research Centre constantly seek to develop innovative ways to improve patient care. As a member you can benefit from and shape the focus of this work. You'll also be given opportunities to influence the GPs of tomorrow by meeting and mentoring medical students and foundation doctors with an interest in general practice.

Registration and fees

There are two options for trainee GPs who want to sit the MRCGP; RCGP membership or our non-member trainee package.  Both options include RCGP certification and access to a trainee ePortfolio. Only joining as a member gives you the additional benefits outlined above.  

 AiT membership fees

To become an Associate in Training (AiT) member , we ask you to pay the following:

  • An initial payment of £273.40 upon registration by card.
  • Your next annual Associate in Training Membership payment will be collected on the following 1 April until the end of your training scheme. You will need to set up a Direct Debit during the registration process to pay your membership fee.

You can update your training status/career pathway (e.g. from FT to LTFT) at any time via (in Update your Profile - Training Pathway). You will be notified of your annual subscription fee in late February each year via renewal invitation, in advance of the Direct Debit collection on 1 April.

For guidance, please find below the annual AiT membership fee for 1 April 2017 - 31 March 2018:

Full time training and LTFT over 76%
LTFT under 75% £199.50
Maternity Leave £199.50

Trainee non-member fees

The Non-member fee is a one off fee of £925 payable in one lump sum at the beginning of training (Based on training of 3-4 years). Thereafter an extension of training non member fee will be payable annually.
