Changes to the Revalidation Guide

The key changes between the second and third editions of this Guide to the Revalidation of General Practitioners.

  • The RCGP has adopted throughout this guide the convention used by others of using the term ‘supporting information’ in place of ‘evidence’ for revalidation.
  • The timelines have been adjusted to reflect the fact that the Early Adopters (in which the first doctors will revalidate) will now start in the year 2011/12, and not earlier.
  • The possibility of submitting a quality improvement project in place of the second clinical audit has been included.
  • There is a new reference to the revalidation of GPs in training, although the details concerning this are still not clear.
  • The definition of what activities are included in Supporting Information Area 13 (extended practice) has been refined.
  • We have emphasised the discretion that will be required by Responsible Officers in assessing supporting information for Revalidation.
  •  A simplification of the continuing professional development learning credits system in supporting information area 6.

Changes to the guide are highlighted in red.
